To renew your IP address: 1. Open a command prompt window (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt ). 2. Type this command, then press Enter : ipconfig /renew If that doesn't succeed, I recommend rebooting your wireless router by disconnecting it from the electrical power for a few seconds and then connecting it. I have tried both releasing the IP and refreshing the IP. I have rebooted the router and the cable modem several times and that makes no difference. When I ran ipconfig/release I got the following: Ethernet adapter Wireless Netowrk Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . : Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . : When I ran ipconfig/renew I got the following: Windows IP Configuration An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Network Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out. An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out. I don't know what to do next. If I piggy back off of my neighbor's wireless, my Asus Eee PC netbook can connect to the internet just fine; but if I try to connect to my own wireless network, even though the two other computers in my home (one wireless that uses Vista and one wired that uses Windows 7 are connected successfully to it, I get the following error message: This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. For more information, click this message. When I click it, I get the Local Area Connection Status window. I click the Support tab and click on the "Details" button and get the following: Physical Address 90-E6-BA-A8-8B-13 IP Address 169.254.111.158 Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway DNS Server WINS Server I'm very frustrated by this and really would appreciate additional advice on how to resolve this. Thank you.

Does your computer show that it's connected to your wireless network? If it can't connect, it can't get an IP address. Have you enabled MAC address filtering in your wireless router? If so, add your computer's wireless MAC address to the approved list. Have you tried my suggestion to reboot your wireless router by disconnecting it from the electrical power for a few seconds and then connecting it?Boulder Computer Maven Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

I had the same problem on my wireless PC ( window XP), tried everything mentioned in the earlier dates, Initially was intermittant and now no connection. I contacted the DSL company, two different wireless adapter companies with no eval. I suspect the problem started when I upgraded SP2 and got worse with SP3 although my main computer which is hard wired to the router has no problems nor does the laptop. I need guidance in unistalling both packs w/o restoring the system.

Does your router have a setup disk? I've had similar problems in the past and running/reinstalling router setup can sometimes do the trick when all else fails. Does your router have ports to try a wired connection to see and or eliminate the possibility of hardware faults?

Pushing the reset button returns the router to factory settings, erasing the settings that you've made for wireless network name (SSID), encryption type, encryption key, etc. I only recommend it as a last resort if nothing else works.Boulder Computer Maven Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

I am having the very same problems!I have two D-Link DIR-825 routers and a D-Link DWA-160 adapter and I can now no longer connect to either router with either the D-Link DWA-160 or my computer's internal wireless radio. I have several other computers that all connect to these same routers running Win Vista-64 and Win-7 with no issues at all, but my XP and my friend's XP machines will no longer connect. The wireless connection reports that the IP address is 0.0.0.0 and the subnet mask is also 0.0.0.0I try to repair the connection and that doesn't fix the problem. I've tried the IP release and reset in the command prompt and that doens't fix the problem either.I think one of the latest windows updates has screwed around with the communications of the wireless, probably to try and track our usage, and is now having issues with the IP address seemengly locking up.Resetting the router and updating drivers has not fixed the issue.Microsoft needs to come up with a fix for this quickly! If anyone has a solution, please reply to this post so that I'll get an email notification of your message.I'm dead in the water once again and can't seem to find a fix here on Microsoft's support web site. I need my computer to be up and running on the wireless connection so I need this fix badly!
